Sam Gleaves and Deborah Payne share songs old and new imbued with Appalachian spirit. Traditional music and dance communities revolving around Berea, Kentucky shaped Sam and Deborah’s sound and inspired them to write their own music. Since they began performing together in 2013, Deborah and Sam have toured throughout the U.S. and appeared on stages with the McLain Family Band, Silas House, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Si Kahn, John McCutcheon, Reel World String Band, and more. Sam’s debut recording, AIN’T WE BROTHERS, was featured by NPR Music and the Guardian. Deborah's self-titled album, produced by Michael Cleveland, showcases her brilliant fiddling and moving original tunes. In 2019, Deborah and Sam released their first recording as a duo, WELCOME AS THE FLOWERS IN MAY.
